Shin Splints
Shin splints, also known as medial tibial stress syndrome, is a common condition that causes pain and discomfort in the lower leg. It is often experienced by athletes or individuals who engage in physical activities involving repetitive leg stress, such as running, jumping, or dancing.
Shin splints occur when the shin muscles, tendons, and bone become overworked and inflamed. Symptoms include aching, throbbing, or sharp pain along the inner side of the shinbone, particularly during or after physical activity. The affected area may also feel tender or swollen to the touch.
Treatment for shin splints typically involves rest, ice, and over-the-counter pain relievers to reduce pain and inflammation. In some cases, shockwave therapy, prolotherapy and stretching exercises may be recommended to strengthen the affected muscles and prevent future injury. It is important to seek medical attention if you suspect you have shin splints to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment.
