Morton’s Neuroma
Morton's Neuroma is a condition that affects the nerves in the foot, usually between the third and fourth toes. It occurs when the tissue surrounding one of the nerves thickens, causing pain, numbness, or a burning sensation in the affected area.
The exact cause of Morton's Neuroma is poorly understood, but it is believed to be a result of wearing tight, narrow shoes or high heels that put pressure on the foot. Other factors that can contribute to the condition include foot deformities, such as bunions or flat feet, and repetitive stress on the foot.
Treatment options for Morton's Neuroma include wearing wider shoes with lower heels, using custom orthotics, taking pain medication, and in severe cases, radiofrequency ablation or surgery may be necessary. With proper treatment and care, most people with Morton's Neuroma can find relief from their symptoms and return to their normal activities. Our podiatrists often manufacture in-shoe devices and orthotics to relieve pain. Accurate diagnosis is necessary and at times, you will be referred for ultrasound and x-ray imaging to assist diagnosis.
