Sesamoiditis

Sesamoiditis is a condition that results from inflammation of the sesamoid bones, two small bones located in the ball of the foot beneath the big toe joint. The inflammation can be caused by overuse, injury, or pressure on the sesamoid bones. Symptoms of sesamoiditis include pain, swelling, and difficulty walking or bearing weight on the affected foot.

Treatment options include rest, ice, pain medication, and orthotics or shoe modifications to relieve pressure on the sesamoid bones. In severe cases, injection therapy, shockwave therapy and even surgery may be required.

If you suspect you have sesamoiditis, it's important to consult with a healthcare professional. Our podiatrists can help you with an accurate diagnosis and personalised treatment plan.
