Plantar Wart / Verruca Pedis
Verruca pedis, commonly known as a plantar wart, is a viral infection that affects the bottom of the foot. It is caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV) and can be spread through direct contact with an infected person or contaminated surface.
Plantar warts can be painful and uncomfortable, especially when walking or standing for long periods of time. While it important to know it is not hygiene-related, it may be a source of embarrassment for some. They often appear as small, rough, and raised bumps with tiny black dots in the center.
Although plantar warts can sometimes go away on their own, treatment may be necessary to prevent them from spreading or becoming more painful.
Treatment options may include topical medications, freezing, acid treatments, SWIFT Microwave Therapy or surgery. If you suspect that you have a plantar wart, it is important to consult with a podiatrist for proper diagnosis and treatment.
